In extreme weather such as in UAE, feet tend to become dry, heels crack and nails become neglected and gnarly under the cover of thick socks and tights. So why not give them the little TLC they deserve. Fortunately, these simple, easy remedies can provide sweet relief.
1. Keep Your Feet Soft
There are many factors that cause feet to become rough and dry. Luckily, water and a bit of exfoliation work wonders! Keep your feet soft with a 10-minute warm foot bath. Afterwards use a pumice stone or foot file for removing any thickened skin or calluses. By far the better remedy is the oldest: a foot file and elbow grease, used dry and briskly across the heels, outer toes and balls of the feet, works wonders. Yes, it’s that easy!
2. Keep Them Moisturized
After a good scrubbing session, the foot needs an effective moisturizer to beat the dryness that exfoliation causes. Foot creams/balms are an effective solution for dry, cracked heels and also to treat calluses. Apply them regularly to keep them soft and moisturized.
3. Trim Toenails Regularly
No long nails are not stylish nor hygienic. Keep them toe nails short and trimmed. Longer nail accumulate dirt easily besides longer nails have the tendency to break easily and coming off with live skin.
4. Keep Them Dry
It is extremely important to keep those tootsies dry at all times. If you are a person who wears shoes and socks for longer period of time/hours then dab on some talcum powder inside the socks or massage sandalwood on your feet to keep away the odor. The excessive moisture can cause fungus in nail which is a very unsightly affair.
5. Some DIY For that Extra TLC
Treat your foot to some DIY treatment at home to give them that extra attention. Here a DIY foot scrub is shared to give you some idea.
• 2 cups granulated sugar
• 1/4 to 1/3 cup almond or coconut oil
• 6-8 drops of lemon essential oil
Combine sugar and almond oil in a clean, dry bowl and add oil slowly until you have a soft, wet-sand consistency. Add as much lemon essential oil as preferred and work into feet for five minutes before rinsing away in the shower. Your feet will feel like they’ve just has a spa treatment.
