Wedding season is upon us and many of you will be gearing up for the festive season. Whether you’re a bride-to-be, a bridesmaid, mother of the bride or the bride’s BFF, you’ll need some inspiration to get the festivities rolling. Wedding season is a time to celebrate, a time when all your loved ones come together to celebrate, a time sing and dance, and most importantly, a time to get your best festive gear on. Bridal trends change as fast as you can say fashion and what may have been trending the previous year may totally be out of fashion this year.
While you want to look your best, it is pertinent to note that you dress in accordance to your body type, your style and what the occasion is. Don’t turn up looking like a bride if you’re only a guest and don’t make the mistake of being too under dressed if it’s a formal event. It is also important to not feel pressured to dress according to what’s trending because it isn’t necessary that every trend will suit your frame. If you’re all set to tie the knot this year or in the coming year, then you might want to take inspiration from these Bollywood beauties who tied the knot with their beaus in the most gorgeous bridal couture. Whether you want to be the traditional bride or a modern muse or want to combine modernism with old world charm; then this is the guide for you.
1. Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh tied the knot in a private ceremony in Lake Como and it was the most anticipated wedding of the year owing to the fact that all the details were kept under wraps until the last minute. All the guests were required to hand in their phones so no pictures or footage could be taken at the event. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone then took to their social media accounts and shared selective pictures from the ceremony which took place over the course of three days.
Deepika Padukone opted for a completely traditional look for all her events with her trousseau being designed by none other than Indian couturier, Sabyasachi. For all the brides who want to sport a traditional look, Deepika Padukone’s look is number one in our books. The Padmaavat actress was clad in a deep red ensemble adorned with gold work and emebellishments.
She teamed her bridal look with heavy antique jewellery which added the traditional twist to her look. Her hands were adorned with intricate henna and diamond rings and DP left jaws dropping as soon as the pictures were released on social media. The fave part of her look for us had to be the large sized tika which drew all the attention to her face. If you’re opting for a look similar to Deepika’s, ensure you’re keeping your makeup subtle to avoid the danger of looking too over the top.
2. Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra’s wedding to Nick Jonas was another much-anticipated wedding; not just in Bollywood, but also in Hollywood. Pictures from their big fat Indian wedding in Udaipur circulated on social media like wildfire; making it one of the most documented weddings of 2018. Priyanka and Nick were wed the good old traditional Indian way, followed by an English style reception. On her wedding day, Priyanka was clad in a traditional red Sabyasachi lengha choli adorned with pretty red embellishments and bead work. While Pee Cee went for the traditional red colour, the work itself had a modern feel to it.
If like PC you want to be a modern bride with a hint of traditional, then this is the way to go. Priyanka paired her wedding outfit with layers of silver jewellery and made a bold statement at her wedding with Nick by her side.
Pee Cee also had an English style wedding for which she was clad in a pretty white Ralph Lauren dress with beautiful handcrafted work across the bodice and the body of the dress. The lace detailing followed through on her arms and it was actually her veil that stole the show. Priyanka’s veil measured a staggering 75 feet long and required the assistance of a few to carry it behind her. Now if that doesn’t make enough of a statement then we don’t know what does.
3. Anushka Sharma
Anushka Sharma was one of the most understated brides of 2017 and took our breath away when she walked down the aisle in a subtle-hued Sabyasachi ensemble. The baby pink lengha choli was adorned in floral motifs and encrusted with rhinestones. Her delicate dupatta was draped around her with her beautiful polka jewellery being the focal point of her look.
Anushka, being the natural beauty that she is, wore minimal makeup and her hair parted in the middle. If you have a day time event and want to opt for something not so heavy and on the understated side, then Anushka Sharma is your go-to muse for all the inspo you need.
4. Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor is the undisputed style star of Bollywood and there’s no one who will knock her out of the spot any time soon. She is known as the style star of Bollywood for a reason and her wedding was just one example of why she has become a global icon. The fashion world was shocked when pictures of Sonam Kapoor surfaced online because no one expected her to be oh so traditional. She wore a blood red Anuradha Vakil bridal outfit with gold gotta motifs adorned all over it.
She wore heavy jewellery, traditional red bangles and a headpiece which became the focal point of her look. Her arms were laden with henna till her elbows and she had flowers in her hair. Pictures of her wedding were published by Vogue India and Sonam Kapoor became a source of inspiration for many brides-to-be.
5. Neha Dhupia
Neha Dhupia was a blushing bride in pink and coordinated perfectly with her groom, Angad Bedi. The two tied the knot last summer in a rather private ceremony and managed to keep their ceremony away from the media’s glare. Neha tied the knot with her beau in an understated pink Anita Dongre lengha choli with gorgeous embellishments all over it. The muted pink hue complimented Neha’s dusky complexion and the statement kundun jewellery worked wonders with her outfit.
This is another look that will work really well for brides who are opting for a day time event because you really don’t want to look too over the top for a day time wedding.
With five looks to choose from, this gives all brides-to-be enough inspo for their upcoming nuptials. Ensure that you consult the right people before placing your bridal orders and leave yourself enough time for all your preparations. Start planning well in advance and save yourself from any mishaps that are bound to occur on the way to your wedding day. Top tip: make sure your grooms are well organised and don’t leave things to the last minute. And always remember, happy, stress-free brides are the prettiest!
