Are you looking for something to blow your minds? Then, you’ve reached just the right place!
Have you heard of American social media sensation Amanda Cerny? She’s a fitness motivator, television personality and founder of ‘Play Foundation’ (an NGO) that has over 1.9 million subscribers on YouTube and over 17 million followers on Instagram. She is known for her comedy sketches, often collaborating with other social media personalities. Interestingly, she was also once a playmate, as part of the famous Playboy mansion!
Now, she’s aspiring to take her creative genius a step forward and try her hands at Bollywood. Yes you heard that right, Bollywood! And, guess who her dream star to debut with is?
None other than Salman Khan! Interestingly so, she mapped out a pretty successful plan to reach out to him too! Here’s how it went!
After watching a clip of the performances at Masala! Awards, Amanda was fascinated by the idea of Bollywood. Soon, an Instagram post followed where she reached out to her millions of followers asking them for suggestions on the Bollywood actor and director she should work with. What happened next was pure magic that showcased the power of social media. Her legions of fans religiously went all out reaching out to Salman Khan and Karan Johar through hash tags and posts, hoping it would catch their attention. Strangely, Salman was the actor most of her followers wanted her to work with though Shah Rukh and KJo were not far behind. The ’mission’ involved commenting on the stars’ latest Instagram video, telling them why they should stand up and take notice of the beautiful Amanda.
Here’s what unfolded!
Not being from our part of the world, Amamda thought Salman was a director, but was quick to realise her oversight, and moved on to appealing to star filmmakers Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty, in the similar way. Quite the plan, wasn’t it?
Now the big question is: Will Salman, known to promote newcomers and talent from across the world, pay attention?
We managed to get in touch with Amanda Cerny, to know more about her love for Bollywood, and here’s what we found out!
1) When did you first get an exposure to Bollywood?
It was when I first travelled to Mumbai in 2011, and I was able to experience the culture and was introduced to a few Bollywood actors/ directors as well, as I had my own goals of pursuing acting. I put my focus on growing my fan base via social media since then and concentrated on my acting career out here in LA. Bollywood has always been on my radar since my first visit to India especially since a very large portion of my fan base resides there.
2) Have you ever watched a Bollywood film or danced to Bollywood music?
YES AND YES!!! If you know me, you know I LOVE dancing and have made many dance videos myself. Anything from Hip-hop to Salsa to Belly dancing! It is one of my favourite things to do besides acting. There is nothing quite like a Bollywood film. It gives insight to another culture with amazing storytelling and soulful music! My Name is Khan is one of the first films I have seen. This movie should have had much more exposure in the U.S.!
3) What was your first impression of the Masala! Awards?
It looked absolutely glamorous. I loved the outfits and the performances. I wanted to get up there and join them in all the dance numbers. Haha!
4) Have you ever considered working in the Asian film or entertainment industry?
Yes of course! We are one world now thanks to the internet. There is no reason to limit myself to one industry. I think that is naive and just an old Hollywood way of thinking. The Asian market is massive and like I said I have a very strong fan base there that I need to entertain as well in Asia.
5) Your fans want to see you with Salman Khan and Karan Johar, Bollywood’s biggest star and director. Your thoughts?
SIGN ME UP! Both are so talented and I appreciate their work tremendously as artists. What I have noticed in the entertainment industry, is that it’s important to break rules and adopt a new concept or idea, to gain success. This has been my method for my success in growing to over 30 million interactive fans on social media across the world. So, whenever Bollywood is ready for me, I am too!
6) You have a massive fan following in South Asia, what message would you like to give your Indian fans?
I do! The message I would like to give them and they hear from me quite often, is that I love them for their continuous support. Everything that I do and create already is for them and I am going to prove it to them and go above and beyond to spread the love by investing my time and energy more into their culture as well.
Now that you’ve heard from her, and the ground work is laid, let’s hope Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty all take notice of Amanda, and grant her the much awaited Bollywood welcome!
