Born in Cairo, Sherif discovered his passion for visual arts from the age of four but it was only during his final year at the faculty of fine arts in Egypt did he realise that photography would perfectly complement his painting career. Soon he was spending his spare time and money experimenting with a primitive piece of Russian photography heritage, the Zenit EM, his first camera.
His next step was an advertising career that lasted for over 10 years. He has only recently given this up for photography and filmmaking. Now with 'Mokbelography', Sherif is dedicated to give every bride the chance of reliving her cherished moments through his photos.
Rates: Dhs5,000 onwards for the basic and Dhs15,000 onwards for a full package.
USP: Mokbel believes every wedding is special so he ensures that they are fully customised. Not tied to any time limit (he doesn't charge by the hour but by the type of package the client chooses), his USP is his passion of story-telling through capturing emotional moments as they unfold. "I always strive to let the moment that has been captured, be remembered by its own essence. It should not be associated with any memory of the photographer who clicked it," he says.
Sarah moved to Dubai in 2007 from the UK and along with her business partner Felix Shumack, a photographer from Australia, established icandyforever.com. Sarah initially managed their commercial photography business, icandy.ae, and was trained by Felix for the first few years. By the end of 2009, she set up icandyforever.com, the successful and quality-driven wedding and portrait side of their studio.
Rates: Sarah works on a bespoke basis. She begins with a basic four-hour photography coverage but can cover a wedding for any amount of time at an hourly rate. From still shots and video montages of the wedding to the album design, delivery, printing and framing, Sarah offers clients individual packages.
USP: Icandyforever.com is a truly boutique studio offering a professional yet very personal service. Sarah ensures that her clients are on the same page with her.

Ugly duckling photography
Anna Butcher and Kelly Wallace moved to Dubai from the UK six years ago and met through mutual friends. Photography was a hobby for them though Kelly was working with recruitments and Anna was a personal trainer! Both weren't happy with their jobs and with more than a little encouragement from friends, they decided to chuck it all and establish a business. After a lot of brainstorming, they came up with the quirky name, Ugly Duckling Photography, inspired by the Hans Anderson story about an ugly duckling that is isolated by all until it turns into a swan. It also reflected the edgy, innovative nature of their company. In just over a year, their venture has grown tremendously and the duo has big names in their kitty.
Rates: Their rates start from Dhs6,000 for one photographer for the day. The rates vary depending on the size of the wedding, how many photographers are required and for how many hours. There are no set packages as they believe in meeting the bride and groom and working out a tailored package.
USP: Ugly Duckling is an all-female team of photographers and videographers. Kelly says this is particularly poignant when it comes to local events and weddings.
