Ever since Irrfan Khan’s cryptic tweet about his ‘rare disease’, get well soon wishes and words of wisdom for the actor have been pouring in by fans and friends from the industry. While the actor chose to maintain silence amidst all the speculation about his disease, he has finally spoken up.
Irrfan revealed that he had been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour, and will be travelling abroad in search for its cure. The 51 year old actor tweeted thanking fans for their well wishes:
AIIMS oncology assistant professor Dr Sunil Kumar told news agency PTI that neuro-endocrine tumour is a "special or rare" form of cancer. "They originate from nerve and gland tissues combined. These are special cells which are present in either the GI (gastrointestinal) tract or in the lungs. There are special cells which are generally immature in nature and don't have very good behaviour," he said.
There’s no confirmation on when Irrfan will be leaving for his treatment, but we hope he recovers quickly and returns!
