Saif Ali Khan’s Chef has just released and since the film took us on a culinary journey around India, we were curious to find out more about Saif Ali Khan’s love for food.
In an exclusive chat with us, he revealed some of his fondest childhood food memories and some of his guilty indulgences!
What are some of your most fond food memories?
It’s actually eating with the farmers in Bhopal. There was something so real about that kind of food. Stopping by on the way back home from school in Mumbai, is another great memory. I use to be a loyal customer at the Bhel Puri stall. It honestly is a miracle that I’m still alive- since it wasn’t the cleanest chaat stall (laughs).
What are some of your guilty indulgences?
French fries, burgers, pizzas, ice cream..
So almost everything?
(Giggles) not everything. Okay, almost everything!
How do you balance being fit and satisfying your cravings at the same time?
I give into my cravings once a week, and be well behaved rest of the time. I don’t like the idea of being too ruled by the diet. It’s okay to cheat every once in a while. But, I enjoy being healthy too. Thank god I have to live the lifestyle of an actor, because, if I didn’t, I would enjoy life to the fullest and end up becoming a big round ball, or I would be really unhealthy.
Do you think food has the power to mend relationships?
Yes, it does. As the saying goes, the way through a man’s heart is through his stomach. I don’t know if food can really mend relationships but in our film, Chef, I make up with my son by cooking him something nice- so yes, it probably can!
