Sural Pal Amu, who was a senior BJP leader and had kept a bounty for cutting off Deepika Padukone's nose, is now out of the ruling party in India. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suraj Pal Amu on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of the party.
The BJP leader is infamous for offering Rs 10 crore bounty for beheading Deepika and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in November 2017 for allegedly distorting historical facts and showing Queen Padmini in a bad light in the film Padmaavat.
Amu was also arrested on January 25 for making the controversial statement. However, the Gurugram Police granted him bail on Tuesday.
He then sent his resignation to Haryana Chief Subhash Barala. He had earlier resigned from his post of the chief media coordinator of the state unit of BJP after CM did not meet Karni Sena representatives over the issue of the film.
Amu (51) sent his resignation to the BJP chief at around 5pm on Wednesday. He sent a text to Barala stating “I, Suraj Pal Amu, with a heavy heart resign from my primary membership in the party. I hope you will accept it with immediate effect. Thanks, Yours, Suraj Pal Amu”.
He stated that he thanks not just supporters from India, but from across the world who supported and other Rajput outfits in protests against Padmaavat film. Amu said “I am concerned that the BJP does not value the party workers. I am a Rajput and cannot compromise on my self-respect in this manner”.
It appears that Amu was disappointed with his preventive arrest by Gurgaon police on January 25. Amu was released on bail five days later.
