Ever since his mid-air spat with fellow comedian, Sunil Grover, Kapil Sharma hasn’t been able to catch a break. What started with a fall in TRP’s, went on to rumours of his fights with B-town celebrities. Other rumours that surfaced included his battle with alcoholism, because of which it was said that Sony TV decided to finally take his show off air.
The Kapil Sharma Show was once, one of the most loved comedy shows on television. When news broke of the show going off air, fans were shocked, with many questioning about the reason why. While some believed it was because of his misconduct on the show, others thought it was because of the unimpressive TRP’s. In a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, Kapil Sharma cleared the air about the rumours, bring to light what exactly happened and why.
On Sony cancelling his show because of his struggle with alcoholism and his need to go to rehab, Kapil said, “I am currently in Bangalore undergoing Ayurvedic treatment. I needed to repair my body to make a great and healthy comeback. I am hoping to be back in Mumbai by September-end. Most of what has been written about me lately is rubbish.” He went on to say, “I have been working for the last 10 years without a break and I needed medical help to combat anxiety, blood pressure and sugar problems and correct an unbalanced diet. I thought it was best to take a break before another problem that I couldn’t control cropped up. After ignoring my health all these years, I am focussing on it now.”
Clearing the air about the falling TRP’S and his sour relationship with Sony TV he said, “I have a wonderful relationship with the Sony team. Another channel would have put insane pressure on me to carry on, but the Sony bosses never issued any threats. I could not afford to cancel another episode so I called them and requested that I wanted to take a break. They readily agreed. I have no plans of leaving Sony.”
The comedian recently received a lot of flak for inviting celebrities on his show, and then making them wait, until he would eventually never turn up. In an attempt to clear the air regarding the recent incidents with Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn, he said, “Those who’re calling me arrogant and egoistic don’t know how nice Shah Rukh has been to me, how much love and respect I have for him. I don’t wish to make anybody wait, be it a superstar or not. I’m genuinely unwell and I don’t have the energy to keep sending out denials.”
He also once again addressed his spat with Sunil Grover, calling it a ‘one-off incident’ and admitting that he was however, completely wrong. Signing off, he said, “If you fall, it’s your fault and nobody else’s.” Well said.
We hope Kapil gets well soon and the legendary show, returns back to television, entertaining fans as always.
