The International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) will get off to a spectacular start tomorrow at The Venetian Macao, Macau. The three-day event, from July 4-6, encapsulates film briefings, fashion events, press conferences, green carpets, film and music workshops leading into the TATA Motors IIFA Awards ceremony. Most of the stars have already flown to Macau which will host the biggest celebration of Indian cinema.
There are quite a few activities lined up. Day two of IIFA will see the lighthearted comedy, 'Santa Banta' host a press briefing. The Akashdeep Sabir directed starrer will feature Boman Irani, Vir Das, Ram Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Lisa Haydon, and Johnny Lever among others.
Another exciting event on Day 2 is the music-cum-fashion extravaganza 'Grey Goose Presents IIFA Rocks' themed to the 'Magic of the Movies' that will feature star-studded performances by Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonu Sood, Sophie Chaudhary, Arjun Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Hussain Kuwajerwala and Gauhar Khan. Boman Irani and Vir Das will host the event. The event will also see a fashion line by designer-duo, Shantanu and Nikhil modelling their collection around what they call the 'The Celluloid Noir'.
IIFA this year also embraces the cause of women empowerment and equality. In partnership with the Jaago Re Campaign of TATA TEA IIFA aims to create a social awakening among Indian women about the change they can bring with the true power of their vote, women being 49 per cent of the voter base in the country. Emphasizing the significance of their strength in numbers, the campaign emphasizes 'The Power of 49'.
All this will then lead to the main draw, the TATA Motors IIFA Awards being hosted by none other than Shahrukh Khan with co-host, Shahid Kapoor. Shahid previously hosted the IIFA Awards in Singapore. The night of accolades will also feature performances by Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Dhak-Dhak girl Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Ayushmann Khurrana pairing with Parineeti Chopra and a first-of-its-kind dance-off between Prabhudeva and Sridevi.
