Sun and sand (thanks to its very own stretch of beach), old-fashioned glamour (musicians playing in the lobby lounge cafe) and new-fangled shopping (exclusive passageway to the Abu Dhabi Mall) – Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi has it all. Located in the capital’s Tourist Club Area, the hotel is also home to the Abu Dhabi Trade Centre complex so it’s not uncommon to find movers and shakers from the business world out and about. Celeb guests at this property have included British royalty so the place is indeed special. With a 120mt private beach front, a Beach Club for a spot of tennis or squash, fantastic spa and 11 dining hotspots, you couldn’t ask for more.
The water-facing rooms and suites are uber-luxe, with plush sofas, ottoman and bed that beckon you to sink in. The bathroom has a cosy feel to it and the colourful mosaic of tiles on the shower wall make you feel like you’re in a rainforest!
Excellent German nosh and lager is served at the lively restaurant; we particularly enjoyed the homemade liver pate with green peppers, the cod filet wrapped in Black Forest ham that got a burst of contrasting flavour from the creamy leeks it was laid on and the uberbackener – a delicate pancake filled with cured cheese.
Through breakfast, lunch and dinner, the buffet at Essence is an affair filled with a variety of delish discoveries. Friday brunch unites Brauhaus and Benihana’s foodie forces, as well as a live pasta station plus ice cream and sorbets corner, going down a treat from start to finish. Do try the hibachi rice, makimono assortment, quail confit, raspberry brulee and to-die-for chocolate marble cheesecake.
Italian restaurant with a casual chic décor and top grub at very reasonable prices – we highly recommend their wood-fire oven made pizzas.
