Holi in real life Bollywood
Old flames? Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha in Rang Barse in Silsila

Holi is all about colours, fun, flirting, food and Bollywood songs! There have been many songs that celebrate the festival of colours in our movies but none so iconic as Rang Barse – the flirtatious number in the late Yash Chopra's Silsila. Thirty-two years after its release this is the song without which NO Holi party is complete! It's simply because Rang Barse stands for everything that the festival is known for – fun, teasing, friendship and ahem sizzling chemistry between lovers!

Why It's So Great
For those who haven't watched this film (and that is only possible if you belong to another planet) here is a brief recap of the context: Amitabh meets his ex girlfriend Rekha after a few years of getting married to Jaya Bachchan. Unfortunately, she is married to Sanjeev Kumar. The two couples become good friends but Amitabh and Rekha find their chemistry too hard to ignore. The bottled emotions all come to fore during Holi when an inebriated Amitabh (remember drinking bhang is part of Holi festivities) makes a move on Rekha right in front of his wife and her husband! Given the real-life equations between the three actors, it was indeed a coup of sorts that Yash Chopra pulled off.
However, the Rang Barse situation isn't restricted to movies. We present the famous love triangles where a strong marriage has been threatenedalmost.by the entry of the 'other woman'! Read on to find out all about the 'silsilas' of the real-life Amitabhs, Rekhas and Jayas.

1) REAL LIFE AMITABH: AJAY DEVGN
REAL LIFE JAYA: KAJOL
REAL LIFE REKHA: KANGNA

Ajay Devgn's alleged roving eye is always talked about in hush-hush tones. However, the first time the brooding actor's link-up actually came out in the open was when Kangna Ranaut entered the picture. Their association led Kangs to sign several films with Ajay though unfortunately, apart from Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, nothing worked.
Meanwhile Kajol who has always played the silent supportive wife (much like Jaya in the film) once again sided with her husband and chose to ignore it. We wonder why.

How it ended: Kangna allegedly felt shortchanged and fell out with Ajay which also affected her career for a while. The two drifted apart and Ajay was back to home and hearth (which he had no intention of leaving anyway).

2) REAL LIFE AMITABH: SHAH RUKH KHAN
REAL LIFE JAYA: GAURI KHAN
REAL LIFE REKHA: PRIYANKA

Perhaps no relationship has garnered so much attention in the recent past than King Khan's close friendship with a much-younger Priyanka Chopra. Exactly like AMitabh in the film, SRK was brazen about his fondness for her in public and one video actually shows him asking her to marry him (in jest of course) at a public function! Also, the two have been spotted getting cosy on stage at events and awards night. Whatever, be the truth of the matter, Gauri isn't playing the sacrificing wife like Jaya. She has reportedly put her foot down and stopped her hubby from taking PC on in Happy New Year.

How It Ended: After all the drama of last year (when it was reported how Gauri and her girl pals ganged up against her), things seem to have cooled off now. At least on the outside! There are still whispers about how the alleged relationship is far from over but both PC and SRK have had their down moments as well. Some time back it was reported how some people heard them arguing at a party!

3) REAL LIFE AMITABH: AAMIR KHAN
REAL LIFE JAYA: REENA DUTTA
REAL LIFE REKHA: POOJA BHATT

Aamir Khan's squeaky clean reputation wasn't always so clean. Long before getting married to Kiran Rao Aamir was linked with a string of women including Pooja Bhatt, his Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahi co-star. Reena was reportedly quite upset but she kept quiet – despite a bold Pooja giving interviews left, right and centre about Aamir's proposal to her! The long-suffering Reena took this affair too in her stride – after his link-ups with other women.

How It Ended: Aamir was too conscious of his public image and preferred to keep it hidden. Pooja was too wild and honest to stay quiet. Also, his controlling and perfectionist nature was too much to take for a bohemian like Pooja. Both then moved on to other people. Unfortunately, Aamir's marriage didn't last too long.

4) REAL LIFE AMITABH: ARSHAD WARSI
REAL LIFE JAYA: MARIA GORETTI
REAL LIFE REKHA: DIA MIRZA

VJ-TV host Maria Goretti was the true anchor of Arshad Warsi's life. She supported him when his career nosedived after a good start. Arshad himself had acknowledged how her job and support kept them going during tough times. However, their perfect marital life was disturbed when pretty Dia Mirza entered the picture. She had signed up Arshad's home production Hum, Tum Aur Ghost and reportedly entered a relationship with him.
Maria obviously didn't take to it kindly and even allegedly moved out. Sources said she was extremely upset by the link-up.

How It Ended: It wasn't easy but Arshad reportedly had to move heaven and earth to win back Maria. He loved her and their son Zeke too much to let them go. He had to choose between two women and it was Dia who he broke off with.

5) REAL LIFE AMITABH: GOVINDA
REAL LIFE JAYA: SUNITA
REAL LIFE REKHA: RANI MUKERJI

Govinda was a much married man when he reportedly fell hook, line and sinker for Rani Mukerji, then an upcoming actress. The duo signed about 12 films together though nothing was successful! Sunita naturally saw red but her smitten husband even allegedly decided to move in with Rani for a while. Sources say the couple had a huge showdown over the actress.

How it ended: This was a relationship doomed from the start. Rani obviously was ambitious and got very good offers while Govinda's films were not as successful as they were in the 80s and 90s. His dream of making Rani his next Karisma (remember the Govinda-Karisma pairing of the 90s?) didn't work out too well. Eventually, he went back to home and family.
