The intense Indo-Pak rivalry will be played on a new battleground – Dubai. And leading from the front are two men known for their frankspeak. Shoaib Akhtar, the fiery former Pakistani paceman will bowl some pretty sharp bouncers to dashing batsman Virender Sehwag at the first ever Colors Cricket Conclave this week in Dubai.
Speed demon Shoaib, often called controversy’s favourite child, for his penchant to shoot his mouth off, has had a roller coaster career ride. His pace had every nation gasping for breath. His 6/11 against New Zealand at Lahore was one of his most memorable spells. Another one was at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 1999 at the Asian Test Championship when he removed Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar with deliveries that stunned the viewers.
Shoaib will meet his match in Virender Sehwag whose explosive batting fit in perfectly with his care-a-damn attitude and swagger. His is equally refreshing off the field and shares his views on everything – from politics to cricket – in a candid, direct manner that has often landed him in controversy. He has often faced backlash for his comments on Twitter, especially from liberals.
So when two such controversial and interesting personalities meet, there are bound to be fireworks and the 90 minute session between them promises just that. The show will be moderated by actor and television presenter Gaurav Kapoor.
