Rekha is considered Bollywood's ultimate diva, known for her poise, grace and beauty, as much as for her talent. Her parents were both leading stars in the South.

She made her Hindi film debut with Sawan Bhadon in 1970. She initially stuck to glamorous roles, but in Do Anjaane opposite Amitabh Bachchan, she was noticed for her acting as well. Many more memorable performances followed, and she went on to become one of the most successful heroines of her times.

Rekha's performance in Umrao Jaan as the doomed courtesan is still hailed as a landmark in Hindi cinema and won her a National Award.

Rekha was married to Delhi businessman Mukesh Aggarwal, who committed suicide soon after his wedding. She has been linked to actor Vinod Mehra, but it is her relationship with Amitabh Bachchan that is legendary in the industry.
