Boney Kapoor is finally dealing with the hurt of losing his beloved wife in the best way possible. He has begun to reach out to friends to share his memories and photographs of her. A couple of days ago, Boney was overwhelmed when his late wife was featured among the notable losses of 2017 at the Oscars ceremony.
Says a close friend, “Someone informed Boney about Sri’s inclusion in the tributes section of the Oscars along with Shashi Kapoor. Boney was truly touched and surprised. Shashi has done many international films including some very notable ones produced and/or written by James Ivory who won the Oscar for the best original screenplay in Call Me by Your Name. But Sridevi never went international. Sridevi hadn’t done a single non-Indian film. Boney was moved and enthused.” Boney, according to friends, is trying to keep his mind off the loss by thinking of the good times. “The entire family is with him including his four children (Arjun and Anshula, Jhanvi and Khushi). But he likes sit alone with his memories. The Oscar homage really touched Boney. He shared the Oscar video with all his friends.”
Incidentally Vinod Khanna also passed away in 2017. But the Oscars didn’t make any mention of him. Says film critic Raja Sen, “It was huge to see Sridevi included in the In Memoriam segment at the Oscars. Firstly, because despite being our only pan-Indian superstar, she had never worked in English cinema, so they chose to acknowledge her impact as an Indian performer. Secondly, the Academy has become infamous for the tribute leaving out people who passed away just before the Oscars. There is usually an earlier cut-off for the In Memoriam segment, so for them to include Sridevi, who passed away just a week ago, was a wonderful surprise.”
