Berners Tavern
The cool and chic interiors

Planning a vacay to London this summer? If so, be sure to add a meal at Berners Tavern to your itinerary. After hearing so much about the delish menu at this A-list celeb hotspot under the direction of London’s own Michelin starred Executive Chef Jason Atherton, we just had to go in for ourselves to see what the fuss was all about.

We felt like we were transported to another time when we set foot into this buzzing venue complete with ornate high ceilings, gorgeous chandeliers, walls completely covered with stunning picture frames and foot-tapping jazz and soul music filling the room. With a fabulous vibe in place, we were ready to tuck in.

We whet our appetite with warm bread rolls and delish lightly salted butter followed by a very generous portion of Native Lobster and Prawn Cocktail with creamy avocado and crispy shallot which wasn’t too heavy as some prawn cocktails can be. It really hit the spot.  Everything looked so good on the menu that we had to ask our servers Vasi and Cosimo, who were just brilliant, to help us narrow in on our mains. After a bit of deliberation, I opted for the Lake District Rib Eye served with peppercorn sauce, triple cooked chips which were made to perfection and a fresh crisp salad. It was arguably one of the best juicy steaks I have had to date.  My partner ordered the very tender and flavoursome Roast rump of Romney Marsh Lamb which was served with asparagus, Jersey Royals (potatoes), wild garlic, cabbage pesto and white onion – a must-have for lamb lovers. To share, we also ordered the very unique plump Goat’s Cheese Gnocchi made with roasted mushrooms, artichoke milk and crisps. We devoured it in minutes – that’s always a great sign!

No meal is complete without dessert and even though we were stuffed at this point, we just had to try the Sour Yoghurt Terrine served with mango and brown butter ice cream and the Strawberry Éclair topped with Devon cream and served with a decadent scoop of chocolate sorbet. We normally go for all things chocolate but since our servers had highly recommended them, we gave them a try and we were so glad that we did. They were absolutely sinful.

We always judge by a place by their ambience, service and of course food and Berners Tavern exceeded our expectations on all counts. We will definitely be back soon.
