Karan Johar team members denied US visa
Some people attached to 'My Name is Khan' unable to travel
While many Bollywood films are being shot in the US these days, it’s no longer easy for the cast and crew to get a visa to go there.
Earlier, hundreds of crew members were easily allowed to go to the US for film shoots but it’s not the case any more. Terrorist attacks have led to the tightening of the travel regulations. Moreover, scams involving people going to the US for work in the name of Bollywood have made it hard as well.
Karan Johar’s cast and crew are not new to America. The filmmaker has shot many of his films there.
His latest directorial venture “My Name is Khan”, loosely based on Hollywood film “Rainman” and starring Shah Rukh Khan, is currently being shot in LA.
However, the US Consulate in Mumbai has reportedly denied visa to some of the Muslims attached to the film. These include actor Aamir Bashir, who plays SRK’s younger brother in the movie, a couple of members of the production team as well as Shah Rukh’s personal staff.
The fact that some of these people had travelled to America before and all of them had valid papers did not help neither did the fact that the project had the names of two Bollywood biggies, Shah Rukh and Karan Johar, attached to it.
Those whose visas were rejected have submitted fresh applications.
Incidentally, Aamir Bashir was refused the visa because he had forgotten to mention that he had recently travelled to Iran. The actor says it was an oversight and that he went to Iran to discuss a project with filmmaker Majid Majidi who’s latest film, “Song of the Sparrows”, has won a lot of critical acclaim.
