Live Earth India cancelled after attacks

The Live Earth India concert has been cancelled in the wake of the recent terror attacks in Mumbai.

The charity concert, which was planned to raise awareness of climate change, was scheduled to take place on December 7, 2008.

The event was due to feature Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd star Roger Waters and Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am along with Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Bipasha Basu, Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Hard Kaur, Jalebee Cartel, Vishal & Shekhar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam and Shaan.

But organisers, including former US vice-president Al Gore, have confirmed the event will not go ahead, after nearly 200 people were killed and hundreds injured in a series of attacks that began on November 26.

A statement released on Saturday reads: "Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are saddened to announce that Live Earth India has been called off."
The show would have followed the series of concerts on seven continents on July 7 last year, which were seen by more than two billion people.

The organisers add: "Together, we will continue to work for solutions to the climate crisis for the good of the people of India and around the world.

"But for now, our thoughts and our prayers are with the victims of this terrible attack, with the bereaved, with the people of Mumbai and with everyone across India."
