Here are five reasons why we think it WILL!

Universal theme.

Aamir’s earlier films that have gone to the Oscars, be it Lagaan or Rang De Basanti, had very India-centric themes. So you needed to be aware of Indian history and culture to understand them. The story of Taare Zameen Par, on the other hand, will touch every child and parent, irrespective of culture and creed.

Children in focus.

Films that have children as the main protagonist get more attention at the Oscars and most often end up winning the award. Prime examples include Sound Of Music, Life Is Beautiful or even the Iranian film Children Of Heaven, which was immensely popular but finally lost out to Life Is Beautiful.

Good timing.

The Indian film industry is in a strong position at the moment and perceptions about it have changed. Hollywood now knows that there is more to Indian films than just song-and-dance sequences.

Marketing ace.

Aamir Khan now knows how to market a film at the Oscars, having earlier campaigned for Lagaan. It will be much easier for him to chalk out a campaign plan and work on it with full enthusiasm.

Simply, great film.

Apart from the fact that it touches you emotionally, there is no denying that TZP is a well-made film that captures every child’s imagination. The script, the animation, the style of filmmaking and the acting are of the highest standard.
