She studied fashion design in the US and was based in New York for 10 years before moving to New Delhi two years ago. No wonder Preeti Chandra's designs effortlessly combine the best of western and eastern aesthetics.
The designer's first ever show in Dubai on day two of the Dubai Fashion Fiesta was called ‘From Pushkar to Milan' and featured sleek dresses and evening gowns, baby doll tops and tunics, glamorous saris and anarkalis with lycra churidars in a vibrant Rajasthan inspired palette.
"India is all about bright colours and I love to mix colours. My silhouettes are contemporary, but I have used traditional motifs and techniques such as dabka, cutwork, gold zardozi and screen printing with gems to create a fusion collection with global appeal. My clothes are not bling but they are glamorous," said Preeti.
The designer decided to explore the Dubai market because she has many customers from the region coming to her boutique in Delhi. "I don't have one particular style and I never like to be repetitive. I have tried to display the versatility of my couture label here and I hope fashion lovers in Dubai enjoyed this journey from the villages of Rajasthan to the cutting edge looks of Milan," she added.
We liked her work - and her prices. Check out the collection and give us your verdict.
Preeti's garments are on display in Hall 3 of the Dubai World Trade Centre until July 27.
The exhibition is open to the public from 11.30am to 10pm. For more information, contact DFF organisers Emirates Vision on 04-3460040.
