Wish Harry Baweja had kept it simple. By the look of the film's first half, it seems a love story set in 2008 would have worked better as son Harman's debut venture instead of "Love Story 2050", which really is neither here nor there.
Yes, the movie moves across places and time, but unfortunately, it belongs nowhere, and goes nowhere. In fact, it just loses its way in a mess created by a bad script and worse story-telling.
It's neither a full blown romantic film nor a science fiction. Kindly put, "Love Story 2050" is a misdirected attempt, albeit an ambitious one, to launch Harman Baweja in a film that has been made with a simple intention - to stand apart from the rest.
It does stand apart, but not for its originality or technical brilliance, but the immense disappointment it leaves you with. What a waste of a Rs500 million budget!
No, the hype does not kill it. In fact, one steps into the first day's first show with no expectations, instead probably with a little sympathy for the film and its debutant hero as the giant Aamir Khan and his cutthroat marketing of "Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na" had been threatening to crush Harman's dream, even before he could prove himself.
A handful of people in the cinema were the first ominous sign of things to come. As Karan (Harman) makes a stylised entry on the big screen, you wait for the next big things to happen. But what does is pretty regular stuff... Love at first sight, Karan subsequently wooing Sana (Priyanka Chopra), the couple singing some melodious songs, while the eye-pleasing locales of South Australia roll in the background.
To be fair, till this point, the film, though moving at a slower-than-desired pace, manages to keep you interested.
But just when you think the lonely Karan is alone no more, it's time to go into the future. The Shanghai-lookalike Mumbai of 2050 is where he lands along with scientist Uncle Ya (Boman Irani) and Sana's siblings. Our happy hero of the first half is now on a mission, which progresses in a painfully confused manner.
Instead of the much talked about technical wizardry bowling one over, what knocks our senses dead is a haphazard bunch of sequences that don't connect cohesively and challenge logic every step of the way.
By now you genuinely feel sorry for Harman and even have no patience or appreciation for the special effects that inconsistently appear on screen. Some are amateurish, some impressive, but you simply don't care.
At almost 3 hours, this love story makes you weep for a happy ending, or just any ending.
Amidst all that's mediocre and bad, Harman makes his presence felt. For most of film he is at ease and dances like a dream, and except for a few scenes that require complex emoting, his acting passes muster. And yes, not just the face, even his voice and on screen mannerisms are quite like Hrithik Roshan's. So whether he likes it or not, comparisons will remain and it will take a lot of effort from him to come into his own.
Priyanka's performance fluctuates between likable and contrived, and despite the long length of her role, she doesn't really make a mark. Her stylist though does a good job of making her fit her two on screen personas.
The remaining cast has bit roles with nothing to do, and even the immensely talented Boman Irani fails to win you over.
The fault lies mainly with the script, screenplay and direction. Together, the three make you so weary that while you do notice that the music is pleasing and the sets beautifully crafted, you can't be bothered with applauding.
‘I don't need luck because I have love', is Karan's favourite line in the film. Well, Harman may have love, but for "Love Story 2050" to work, he'll only need luck. And lots of it.
Cast: Harman Baweja, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, Archana Puran Singh, Dilip Tahil
Director: Harry Baweja
Music: Anu Malik

Just love Harman & the music by Anu Malik, nothing else. Hate the story, direction & rest of it. It's "HATE STORY 2050". Poor Harman, groomed & bred like a CLONE of Hrithik Roshan. Well no can match the talent & likes of Hrithik Roshan. Best of luck HARMAN.

I totally agree with subash that the first 2 comments r from the producer or the director to misguide the puplic to watch a stupid lame movie. The concepts were supid and bakwas with no sense. Even a kid who watched this movie can tell that the movie is bakwas. First of all I knew that this movie would be a big flop the moment I saw the stupid trailers. I mean really guys even me and my friends can work in flash 3d software to do an animation movie far far better than the speacial effects in stupid "love story 2050". In the promos they said that "love story 2050" goes far beyond "KRISH" in terms of special effects and action. That's a rediculus comment, I wonder what were they thinking when they said that. did they ever watch KRISH in the first place. Mr Baweja, Hrithik Roshan had put in loads and lots of hard work in KRISH he spent time in training for the stunts with some chinese stunt maker for about 4-6 months, even he hurt himself while making stunts. Not even one of the stunts were animated unlike 2050 where whole movie is some cheap animation. I advice the to think

Hey!I just watchd the movie bt wasnt movd at all and even the fiction part was not so effective. Yet I wouldnt say that it was a super flop movie bt it was worth seeing once. Harman did a great job and attractd the viewers. His dance and his hot looks were terrific throughout. It was the poor script and its poor execution that took away the movie. Bt I am sure that Harman will come out with something new and something great.

i think the first two comments must have come from the producers of the film ... after all everybody keeps a watch on the net for the comments and the kind of product the bawejas have dished out even saawariya looks better!!! this is the worst movie right beside saawariya in terms of content and packaging ... the lad is not expected to go anywhere... give me a movie and i will show you...do not visit the theatres.

hi everyone ///basically iam from india hyderabad /./.but i live in new york for past many years ..i love to watch indian movies .....the movie is copy of hollywood film came many years back ..i would say you can watch because of priyaka and hottest harmann baweja ..a new face to bollywood ....and he go far in his filmi life .......first half part of movie is verdict and half is waste of money ....the story makes you boring when they are in the future .and songs are preety good my favorite is melona melo and meelom ka yeh fasla. however i appreicate india is going to far making huge budget movies like this ..they are going to the level of hollywood ...harmann will come soon as good star and priyanka loks good in salwar kameez and skirts..

Daddy Harry could not have made a worse movie for his son's debut. Harman step out of Daddy's dream world and connect with the real youth of the country and you will do fine. This kind of a kitschy film is not good for anyone, leave alone a new comer.

In short Love Story - 'Story' missing . 2050 - '50' cr budget movie n not even worth spending '20' for the story/movie. You better watch Jetix or a cartoon channel rather than spending money on ticket n expecting some sci-fi thrilling moments...It's a waste of time.

I don't think that India could develop this much till 2050 as india's development is not so fast so this movie is not worth seeing.

Good review! I just knew by the look of that film...nothing was going to happen. Starting off with a sci-fi concept is not the best thing to do. and in all honesty, the indian junta hasn't really appreciated sci-fi as such, except ofcourse for Krrishh only bcos of the kids!! This movie wasn't directed at children. I would have assumed that with the experience Priyanka C has, she wudve given them some tips to do a better job but I guess she chose to stay put behind her man. STATUS: MISSION FAILED
