Priyanka Chopra to donate her organs
The actress has decided to use her celeb status for a noble cause
Priyanka Chopra has always believed in doing things differently. While most actors who associate themselves with charitable causes are often known to speak more and act less, PC has decided to walk the talk by actually pledging her organs.
A report says that during the treatment of her father’s liver ailment at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), Priyanka learnt more about the institution's Solid Organ Transplant Programs. She was so moved by the concept that she pledged to donate all her organs. Now for the university's Bollywood themed 20th anniversary celebration of its Liver Transplant Program to be held on October 5 in New York, the organisers have invited Priyanka to be the keynote speaker.
The actress will apparently share the stage with Christopher Barry, associate professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Solid Organ Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery. Also attending the gala will be the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Thomas Starzl, who performed the first human liver transplant at the University of Colorado in 1963.
The Bollywood event will not only raise awareness about the need for organ donation, but also raise funds for patient care, advocacy, research and education. Priyanka as the Goodwill Ambassador of Unicef, has also decided to use her celebrity status to promote organ donation.
