Sridevi’s film pushed back for ‘Heroine’
Did Kareena have a hand in this?
‘English Vinglish’ is her comeback film but Sridevi has already taken a step back as far as the release date is concerned. It was earlier supposed to release alongside another big film ‘Heroine’, which is expected to be a Kareena Kapoor show all the way. As the producers of both films were trying to nudge each other off the September 21 plank, it was finally Sri’s film which had to bow out!
As is the case, when two big names clash because of release dates, it becomes interesting to see who gives up first. But in Sridevi’s case, even though she wasn’t the one who took the decision, her film ended up being pushed to October 5. One reason why ‘Heroine’ director Madhur Bhandarkar refused to change his release date was because September 21 is also Kareena’s birthday; it was a birthday present he had promised her in advance!
Producers Eros International along with Boney Kapoor and director Gauri Shinde eventually took a joint call to postpone ‘English Vinglish’. “It was in the film’s best interest. After all, this is Sridevi’s comeback film, so why should it be released under such hectic circumstances? The entire month of September will see women oriented films release one after the other. So Sri’s film releasing after this ‘girly’ mêlée is perhaps a good thing. She won’t have anybody else waiting to steal the focus from her,” a source explains. All said and done, it once again proves Kareena’s power in the industry.
