Arjun Rampal’s career has not been without its set of challenges. After an extremely successful career as a model, his first few acting forays were considered mediocre to say the least. He was called every negative name in the acting book – right from ‘wooden’ to ‘emotionless’ and ‘blank’. But Arjun Rampal proved every critic wrong and has gone on to amass some of the most coveted awards, including the National Award for his performance in Rock On!!. Our Best Entertainer of the Year in 2011 was chosen for his ability to take on commercial cinema with the talent of a true actor...
What was your favourite memory of the Masala! Awards?
I think there was a great turnout at the event and to see so many people come and felicitate actors of our fraternity was amazing. It was nice to see such a large crowd because it is a great encouragement to you as an actor. I also got to meet a lot of people from the industry who I usually don’t meet. It was fantastic.
Which performance of yours are you most proud of?
I will always be extremely proud of two roles in particular – Rajneeti and my role in Rock On!! Both were amazing.
Which among your forthcoming films are you most excited about?
I’m especially looking forward to Heroine because my character in the movie is very strong and is different from what I have played before. Also, Chakravyuh which is directed by one of my favourite directors, Prakash Jha, is up for release this year. I will be essaying the role of a cop for the first time in my career.
How difficult was it to mould yourself into being the actor you are today?
You get to learn something different with every role that you do. One cannot put a time frame to it; I have learnt my way through the industry and I have every filmmaker to thank for it. This is a process and I am not through yet. I will keep learning and adapting till I act.
