Sarah Jane Dias has no film background or industry godfather to take her places. However, that has had zero effect on this former Ms India whose drive is impressive. Unaffected by failure, her skin is thick enough to shake off the ‘what ifs’ of the past and look forward to what the future has in hold. Her movie Kya Super Kool Hai Hum is now a hit at the box office and all her optimism has paid off. We get talking with one of the industry’s most promising talents whose career seems to now be on the rise...
What was it about this crazy script that made you get onboard?
All the innuendo-filled jokes were the first things to catch my attention (laughs)! If Austin Powers and American Pie had a baby together, this film would be the result (laughs)! But jokes apart besides this, the reason I took on such a film was because I promised myself that I would do something entirely different after my debut Game.
Tusshar posed for Kya Super Kool Hain Hum film in blue swim trunks, like John Abraham did in Dostana; what is your take on that?
The day Tusshar shot this scene I was supposed to shoot too but I had finished off quite early. So I went for a swim in the ocean in Goa and from a distance, I saw this person in bright blue trunks walking on the beach. I was quite amused but when I got out of the water, I noticed that it was Tusshar and I burst out laughing. But this scene is required and it very much speaks for itself.
Is it true that you were asked to drive a jeep but refused?
No, I don’t know who the hell has been going around saying I was apprehensive and refused to drive! I specifically took lessons before I went to Goa so that I could drive the jeep. I learnt to drive for the film and had no apprehensions. In fact, they had to keep dragging me out of the jeep because I didn’t want to leave it. The thrill of driving a jeep in Goa is amazing. I even took it for a spin after my shot. After this film, I am much more confident about driving.
Were you disappointed when Game failed at the box office?
The fact that people noticed me in the film is what is important to me. I wasn’t disappointed; Game will always be my first film no matter what anyone says about it. It will always be my proudest piece of work because whoever watches it and knows me, can see the effort I have put into transforming myself. And what’s amazing is that I have literally done the same thing in this film too so I am very proud of myself. I really hope I reap the benefits of all my hard work.
