After the tired old diplomatic and politically correct interviews that stars give today, it is nothing short of refreshing to chat with a man who knows how to get the spark back into a conversation! Recently ousted from Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine because allegedly Kareena didn’t want to work with him, Arunoday has bounced back impressively. He is going to now be seen in the much-anticipated Jism 2 starring none other than the infamous adult actress Sunny Leone.
We walk into the interview and wait the requisite few minutes – not unexpected at all really as most actors are always late. However, what endeared this gorgeous over six foot hunk to us was the fact that he was profusely apologetic for the slight delay – a rare quality in Bollywood indeed. The conversation that followed more than made up for his tardiness. Full of witty quips, Arunoday is much more than a pretty face. He definitely has the smarts to back those impressive looks!
Would you be comfortable watching a film like Jism 2 with family around?
Why wouldn’t I be? In fact, they’re all looking forward to watching it. We’re all adults in my family so there isn’t a problem. And let’s just be real, if you look at the extent to which Hollywood has incorporated adult content into their films, it makes what we do laughable. I love the hypocritical world we live in. Now this goes into a whole different topic, so I will stop right here.
Yeh Saali Zindagi generated a lot of publicity because of your clinches with Aditi. Now Jism 2’s steamy scenes are making headlines. Are you taking over from Emraan Hashmi? The only thing people remembered in the films was the kissing. It’s ridiculous! I worked hard, broke my ankle, got a concussion and all people remembered was that (laughs)! But no, I am not taking over from Emraan Hashmi; I am just trying to make my own way.
Jism 2 is almost entirely on Sunny Leone; don’t you feel sidelined? The day you’ve been marked as the lead actor in the film, that’s the day you’re the lead in the film. If you’re cast as the supporting actor then you have to play that part. You don’t worry about other things and learn to keep your ego out of it. She is the talking point of the film so let them talk about her. It’s good. Let people use that to draw crowds to the theatre and watch the film. They will see a lot of me as I am all over – you just can’t miss me! Once the audience see me in character and what I do with my role, I can guarantee you they will think of me as nothing less than at least competent. I am happy with my work.
Rate Sunny Leone purely as an actress on a scale of 10…
That’s a very unfair question, given the fact that this is her first film and she has never done this before. I believe actors don’t get rated, they evolve. She has done her best and for that she gets nine out of 10. How people respond to her abilities is another thing. I only rate how hard somebody works and that I know because I was there.
Aisha, Yeh Saali Zindagi and now Jism 2 – aren’t women walking away with all the attention in your films?
They are fabulous. I mean come on! Look at them! What kind of a man would I be if I wanted to hog all the attention from these girls? So no, there isn’t a problem. I get noticed a little anyway and that’s enough for me; I am not greedy. Plus these women are extraordinarily good looking so why wouldn’t anyone want to talk about them? Have you seen these girls? My goodness!
What is your dream role?
I love period films so something like a historical epic would be great fun. There is such a wealth of stories in India that need to be brought on screen. It’s amazing that we don’t have many films like that. Someone put me on horse and hand me a sword! Let’s show everyone what this country was like. That would be great. I would also love to do a huge Hollywood style big budget action film where I get to do crazy stunts and train for three months in martial arts that I have never done before. That would be super awesome!
