The filmmaker is the official ambassador for Visit Britain
Karan Johar has received an official invitation to join 506 dignitaries at what will be the most watched event on earth – the London Olympics 2012.
Karan, the official ambassador for Visit Britain is perhaps the only other Indian apart from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to have received an official invitation. While the PM’s invite comes from the British Prime Minister David Cameron as a matter of protocol, Karan's invite comes from the Visit Britain authorities. He will catch the opening ceremony in a special box reserved for the who's who of the world.
Needless to say Karan is super excited about the honour. The director, who had been working non-stop shooting for ‘Student Of The Year’ and judging dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’, had no plans to visit London, which he calls his ‘second home’. But when the invitation came through he jumped at the opportunity. As Karan says, “The 2012 Olympics is going to be a conglomerate of an epic magnitude. The memory of having participated in it, even as a spectactor, is going to stay with me for a lifetime. It is London's big-ticket weekend and I'm not about to miss it for anything in the world."
Though he candidly admits that sports is not been his area of interest, he is wishing the Indian contingent well.
