The script will be re-written to suit Hollywood sensibilities
Yashraj Films’ 2005-hit ‘Bunty aur Babli’ about two teenaged con artists is headed for a global makeover courtesy Uday Chopra. The younger Chopra scion is planning to remake the film in Hollywood for a global audience with a re-written script.
Uday recently launched Yash Raj Films in the US with plans to make Hollywood films. He has already aligned himself as producer with two projects, Peter Glanz's ‘The Longest Week’ and Olivier Dahan's ‘Grace of Monaco’. But he says he has also begun work on a Hollywood version of ‘Bunty aur Babli’.
Interestingly, this will be the first time an intellectual property of a Bollywood film would be extended to Hollywood and be made into a global film after re-working the script. Earlier, producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, had sold the rights of his hugely popular ‘Munnabhai’ films to Hollywood studios though he has no plans to rework the movie.
Experts say, if this model becomes successful, it could open the floodgates for Yash Raj that has a bouquet of IPRs of films such as ‘Kabhie Kabhie’, ‘Kaala Patthar’, ‘Silsila’, ‘Chandni’ to ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ to name just a few.
This year Yash Raj films will release Salaman Khan's ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, SRK and Yash Chopra's next as well as ‘Dhoom 3’.
Uday has apparently employed a bunch of writers in Beverly Hills, who will re-purpose the script to suit Hollywood sensibilities.
We really wonder who in Hollywood will do the roles of Rani Mukherji and Abhishek Bachchan and more importantly, will they sing and dance to ‘Nach Baliye’ as well!
