With the Karan Johar-Ektaa Kapoor merger being Bollywood’s hottest project right now, Deepika Padukone has been confirmed as the heroine! Earlier it was said that Kareena Kapoor was going to play the lead. The head honchos of Dharma Productions and Balaji Films were firm about their choice of hero – Emraan Hashmi – and are said to be very pleased with Deepika stepping in.
However, the transition wasn’t so smooth. Kareena Kapoor was their first choice but she had apprehensions! The gossip mills insist that Bebo wasn’t comfortable working opposite with Emraan, since he’s an actor to reckon with. She politely bowed out of the film and a source on the merger production said, “It’s strange that Kareena wasn’t happy with her role. It’s a heroine oriented film and Emraan is not the centre focus. But she said her wedding might be around the same time as the shooting starts.”
Anyway, the offer then went to Deepika who was so excited about being in the Karan-Ektaa project that she didn’t hesitate to say yes! In fact, she finalised details two days before she took off for Turkey to shoot for Race 2. Our source adds that Bebo later regretted saying no and asked the makers whether she could sign up. “But it would have been unethical to drop Deepika once she had been signed on. It was just too late,” said the source.
Apparently, the film is a quirky, edgy, dramatic love story.
