If your idea of a relaxed Friday is to wake up late, enjoy a lazy breakfast in bed and then head out for a ‘lazier’ lunch with your family, then look no further than Spice Island’s Friday Brunch. This vibrant and colourful restaurant in Crowne Plaza boasts of an array of over 150 dishes from different parts of the world that leave you spoilt for choice. The Friday Brunch has plenty of options to keep children entertained such as clowns, face painting, balloon making and a mini-kids buffet so you can enjoy your meal even as your little ones have a blast with their friends!

Begin your lunch with the wide variety of salads as my friend and I did. The pick of the lot are the poached crab and prawn muhammara salad, the smoked salmon with cocktail sauce apart from the Lebanese range including the ever-popular baba ghanouj, moutabal etc. But don’t overdo the salads for you have to make space for the Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Arabic dishes and the traditional roasts!

I started my main course with the sushi bar. It wasn’t bad but I preferred the dim sum spread on offer (prawns and vegetable), vegetable tempura more. The next part was the toughest – deciding which live cooking station to go for. While my friend was more inclined towards the very appealing Mexican counter, I headed straight to the Mongolian station. It was a wise choice for it served the most amazing seafood I had tasted in a long time. A choice of lobsters, cigalis (sand lobsters) and scampi, chicken and beef was also available. All you had to do was choose your meat or seafood; the chef then mixed it with tomatoes, cabbage and onion, and oyster sauce, soy sauce and a special chilli paste. The flavours of the sauces were so tantalisingly perfect that I couldn’t help but ask for a second helping.

The dessert counter was another delight. Among the several yummy items on display, I tried the mango mousse, tart, bread pudding with vanilla and umm ali. Indeed it was a bit of an overkill but it was a Friday – a day to forget the calories and relish some lip-smacking treats from around the world.
