Anurag Kashyap lambasts Sheetal Talwar

After being honoured at Cannes, it seems that filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s jubilant mood has been ruined by producer Sheetal Talwar.
Talwar who has movies such as ‘Mausam,’ ‘Rakhta Charitra,’ ‘Rann’ to his credit made several nasty comments about Kashyap’s recognition at Cannes for his film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.

The producer poked fun at the filmmaker and said that it was a sad state of affairs that Indian cinema had acquired a status of a joke at the annual Cannes Film Festival. He added that an exorbitant amount of money from the government’s exchequer was being wasted through The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) to ensure that Indian films were being recognised internationally.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap lambasted the producer and said that he was only being vicious about his recent success since his name was not included in the guest list for the party that was thrown by the Indian Pavilion.

Anurag also added that Talwar had no right to talk about film festivals abroad because he was the country’s biggest embarrassment at the Toronto International Film Festival when he didn’t send the prints of his film ‘Mausam’ which were to be showcased for the festival. And because of the unprofessional attitude of the producer TIFF decided that there were never going to showcase any commercial films from India again.

Further, the 39-year-old who is married to actress Kalki Koechlin explained that NDFC was a growing global platform; through it several western personalities such as Martin Scorsese and Martin Roberts had tied up to work on Indian films and that was how the Indian government had spent money.

Well, we wonder if the argument could have been settled if Anurag just compared the shoddy 'Mausam' script to the strong plotline of 'Gangs of Wasseypur'.
