Rhodes Mezzanine
Gary Rhodes has always been a favourite celebrity chef of mine and it was about time I visited one of his many restaurants in Dubai and sampled the delish food that seems to be the talk of the town.
The signature restaurant at the Grosvenor House is just as you would imagine. Similar to his food, it is the finer details that count, and that is evident in all aspects of his restaurant. The interior is ultra modern and the staff, welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable.
Our meal started off with a selection of tantalising amuse-bouches to excite the palette, followed by his famously delicate white tomato soup that was light and frothy in texture and really delivered on taste.Whether you decide to eat from their à la carte or tasting menu you will definitely be pleased. The foie gras with truffle from the tasting menu was rich and tender without being overpowering. Special mention must go to the duck with caramelised turnip. The duck breast was so succulent and the crispy duck pastille had a fantastic contrast of textures.
Dessert, now this is always my favourite. After a quick engagement with the cheese trolley, we couldn’t help but devour some seriously mature fromage which was lip-smacking good. It was now time to satisfy our sweet tooth – did I mention this was my favourite bit? After much deliberation I opted for the rhubarb compote and sorbet with toasted marshmallow meringue. The flavours reminded me of the funfair and the sharp rhubarb was just what we needed after a rather indulgent meal. Just when we thought it was all over, we were treated to another Mezzanine classic – an airy scone with jam and cream, compliments of the chef.
This truly was a memorable experience and we can’t wait to head back to try out some more delectable dishes by Gary Rhodes!
