Rani Mukherji’s affair with Govinda

Life was stable for actor-politician Govinda until love came knocking on the door in the form of his lovely co-star Rani Mukherji. The couple’s chemistry on screen was evident and they started exchanging expensive gifts. Sources say they were almost living in and Govinda, a married man with two kids, was even recommending her for his films. But the romance did not last long. Govinda’s angry wife Sunita, entered the picture and the affair had to come to an abrupt end.

How It All Began
In the early 90s, Govinda had everything he wished for: money, a successful career, a wonderful wife, Sunita and two kids, Narmada and Yashvardhan. As an actor, he was a director’s delight and back then, he wielded considerable influence in the industry. On the other hand, Rani Mukherji was fairly new to Bollywood and was working hard to make a name for herself. It was during this time that she and Govinda met during the shoot of Hadh Kardi Aapne.
They were both outgoing and fun and instantly bonded. Rani was drawn to Govinda’s easygoing manners, humility and ability to make everyone laugh. They spent a lot of time together on the sets of the film which was a love story shot in USA and Switzerland. But little did unit members know that their love on the big screen had translated to reality as well.

From Friends To Lovers
Once the shoot of the film was over, it was quite clear that something was brewing between its two lead stars. They had grown extremely fond of each other and the ever-helpful Govinda went out of his way to help Rani with her career. He started recommending her name to all his producers and directors and the two even signed a bunch of films together. Sources say that after Hadh Kardi Aapne they just couldn’t spend time apart. Though the actor was married, he became very emotionally attached to Rani.

Govinda’s wife Sunita had no idea that her husband had developed a soft spot for his heroine. Since meeting in public wasn’t an option for the duo, insiders say they would spend time at Rani’s flat in Versova. Once a journalist went to meet Rani at her residence and saw Govinda emerging from her room in a night dress!
It is believed that Rani’s parents were quite aware of what was going on between Govinda and their daughter and they disapproved of the relationship. Rumours even suggested that Govinda had gifted her a high-end car, diamonds and even a luxurious flat when she wanted to move to a bigger place! Clearly, they weren’t too concerned about the world gossiping about them.
