Aamir lauds child sexual abuse bill

Superstar Aamir Khan has been winning one accolade after another. His talk show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ , the second episode of which highlighted the issue of child sexual abuse and the absence of laws to protect children from such exploitation drew a positive response from the Indian government. And now, it has been learnt that the Parliament has approved a bill to protect minors below 18 years from such exploitation.

To meet the clause of the bill, special courts will be set up to ensure cases regarding the same are resolved quickly and stringent punishment including life sentence for perpetrators is meted out.

Aamir expressed his joy on Facebook with the words “Hey guys, great news! The Lok Sabha has passed the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Bill today!!! Unbelievable!!! Super News!"

For the second episode of ‘‘Satyamev Jayate,’ the 47-year-old actor brought together several victims and their family members to narrate horrific stories of sexual abuse in order for the public to understand the mental and the physical trauma such episodes cause. The ‘Ghajini’ actor even appealed to the government to quickly pass the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Bill.

After the episode was aired on television on May 17, 2012, Aamir thanked the guests who appeared on the show for sharing their tales. He wrote “I want to thank the brave survivors who came on the show today to share their stories. Anamika, Cinderella, Harish, Ganesh, Nazneen and Padma Aunty (Harish's Mom), Y'all have done a great service to all of us."

Prior to this, Aamir had even met the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot and appealed for speedy trials of female foeticide cases as he had promised in the first episode of his TV show.

Aamir is truly an actor for whom actions speak louder than words.
