One of the coolest clubs in town adds a dash of romance to its menu

The set up was perfect– a fabulous ambiance, interesting company and delicious food. If you are a person who believes in the age-old, time-tested theory of food being a catalyst to reach a man’s heart (or a woman’s for that matter!), then look no further than the swish Cavalli Club this month for a session of culinary romance. For on the menu are delicacies that are designed to play with your taste buds and heighten that sensual feeling.

So when I heard that my fave club has introduced a special ‘Valentine Menu’ lasting February and spilling over to March, I couldn’t wait to try it out with my date. My dinner started with the exotic sounding tortino di astice e mango con gelatina al pomodoro e salsa allo yogurt e zenzero (lobster and mango cake with tomato jelly, ginger and yogurt sauce). The slightly sweet tinge of mango cake merged with the succulence of the lobster while the tomato jelly added the tangy touch. The start, to what was undoubtedly going to be a memorable meal, couldn’t have been more appropriate.

The ravioli came next. It was stuffed with goose liver and parmesan and tossed in a porcini and fresh tomato concassé. A crisp strawberry and raspberry sorbet set the tone for the next round - beef and veal tenderloin with a yellow capsicum sauce offset by potato cream and veggies. This was followed by my personal favourite, the il pesce della passione (fillet of turbot) with caviar that was served on a bed of lentils. Having had a sampling of the excellent caviar at Cavalli just recently, I found this a unique and different take on the regular caviar delicacies.

The fresh flower garnishing and the heart-shaped presentation were the final touches to these fab treats. What a pity, Valentine’s Day comes only once a year!
