Yummy Indian delicacies at Ashiana

Being extremely finicky about Indian food, I was apprehensive about what to expect at Ashiana, the chic Indian restaurant at Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers, when I went there for dinner with a friend recently. After all how differently can one make a reshmi kabab or chicken tikka anyway? So my agenda was clear – stay away from the tried and tested and try something new and different.

Fortunately, Ashiana met my high expectations in more ways than one. The menu boasted of gems from around the country and each item we ordered was light, non-greasy yet delicious. What immediately got my approval was the yummy palak-anjeer ke kabab – a delicious melt-in-the-mouth cutlet of spinach and figs. The kabab platter was fab too with my vote going to the tandoori lahsuni jhinga (prawns in garlic and yoghurt).

The main course was a pleasant surprise. The Meen Moilee, a Kerala specialty of fish in light coconut cream and green chili gravy was lip-smacking. While my friend enjoyed her chicken curry and the other vegetarian delicacies we had ordered, I couldn’t resist more helpings of the fish.

And what’s an Indian dinner without the mithai? The ras malai was the pick of the lot – rounding off a meal that helped me love desi cuisine all over again!
