New dad Abhishek is excited, overwhelmed

It's been an amazing and overwhelming time for Abhishek Bachchan after wife Aishwarya Rai gave birth to their first child - a baby girl - on November 16. The actor, who confirmed the news, posting on his Twitter page,"IT'S A GIRL!!!!!! :-)))))", later took time to thank all those who sent congratulatory messages. And he also shared what he was feeling about the life changing experience of becoming a father.

Abhishek wrote on Twitter, "Have put the wife and daughter to bed. Now sitting alone and re living the whole day again, UNBELIEVABLE. So overwhelmed with all that has taken place today. thank you thank you ALL for your kindness, love and prayers. It means the world to us."

Junior B added, "And a very special mention to ALL of the media for being so thoughtful, kind and respectful. Truly appreciate it. Thank you. Have to get some rest now. Haven't slept in over 40 hrs. Sleep well and good night."

Having caught up on his sleep, Abhishek was still not back to his usual self. He added late yesterday (November 17), "How do women/mothers do it? I'm walking around like a zombie and the Mrs. Is like a super trooper with a bit of bionic woman thrown in!!!"

Abhi then got philosophical, writing, "Just as I step into fatherhood and parenthood, I've never seen myself rely and depend on my parents more. Guess that happens with every new parent. And I finally understand why they still at the age of 35 treat me like a baby and cannot accept that I'm a grown man today."

"Much like my father (Amitabh Bachchan), I too spent the day observing every little thing about the little one. But my greatest observation is..... I don't think I'll be any different," Ash's hubby continued.

And to everyone out there wondering what Abhishek and Aishwarya's baby will be called, well there's a nickname that's already been approved. "And till we find a name for the little lady a dear friend Shahana Goswami gave me a great one. We have Sr B and Jr B already so... Beti B!," Abhishek wrote.

Abhishek later came out with a statement on behalf of himself and Aishwarya. It said, "It's a momentous occasion for the family and we are overwhelmed with all the love we have received from all our fans, the media and the industry. Both Aishwarya and the baby are doing great and we can’t wait to have them home. I would specially like to thank the media for being so supportive, kind and respectful at such an important juncture in our lives. It means the world to us. This is a very overwhelming and exciting phase we enter into and hope to have your continued love and support."
