In conversation with Emraan Hashmi
What is the ‘serial kisser' up to?
Apart from promoting his upcoming movie Jannat at all the possible events, even at the Indian Premier League (IPL), Emraan Hashmi is also gearing up for his next, Raaz 2.
In conversation, this ‘serial kisser' doesn't mind opening a few raaz of his professional as well as personal life. Talking about his appearance at the on-going IPL matches, Emraan says, "The IPL actually makes the film more contemporary. Jannat brings together two things that are most loved in India - Bollywood and cricket."
Talking about Raaz 2, Emraan says he simply loves doing horror films. The actor feels horror as a genre has not been explored well in Bollywood, but Raaz 2 will change that. "Bollywood's scary movies have all been about loud sounds and hideous makeup. But Raaz 2 is going to change the definition of horror very soon. The scenes in the film are scary and we are shooting at the creepiest of places," says Emraan.
When we asked him to name a few of those ‘creepiest places' where he has shot, Emraan says, "We shot in a place called Panghar in Rajathan. We were asked by the villagers not to continue shooting there after sunset. In fact, there's not a single government office in that area because it is said to be a haunted. We are now looking for more such places to make the film look even more authentic."
The film is directed by Mohit Suri and stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role opposite Emraan. This will be Kangana's second film with him after Gangster. "Every star improves with each film," says Emraan, adding, "Raaz 2 is a completely new story and is certainly not a take off from the original Raaz. The subject has been treated differently.
The actor also plans to change his look for the film. "Yes I am undergoing a makeover. I am trying to look scary, so much that I could probably be the ghost in the film (laughs). I am trying to explore something I have not done before. It's a totally new territory for me. My look has been done by a designer called Farha and Aalim has styled my hair. Thanks to them I look the way I do in Raaz 2," says Emraan.
His last film Awaarapan did not fare well at the box office. When asked about its failure Emraan says, "It was one of my best performances but unfortunately the film didn't do well at the box-office. People criticised me for not doing what they wanted me to do (read kiss). I do blame myself for the failure. It was a very mature character and people missed my naughty streak in the film."
So when does he plan to come back with that ‘naughty streak'? Laughs Emraan and says, "I am definitely going to do that. I will be working on one film at a time so that it will give me time to concentrate on my failures and successes."
When asked about the developments on the home front the actor says: "Everything is fine in my married life. I don't treat her as my wife. We are more like a boyfriend and a girlfriend. She is planning to go back to teaching now. She tries to discipline me every now and then with a slap or two."
