Single, but not ready for marriage
Koena Mitra on films, friendship and falling in love
She is tall, dusky and sensuous; she is Koena Mitra. Although her short stint in Bollywood has not been too successful, her international body with an Indian face has been noticed. An international project, Karna, is now in her kitty.
Koena, who was last seen in a special song-dance appearance in ‘Heyy Babyy', keeps her fingers crossed for her forthcoming film Anamika and talks candidly about life, love and films.
Koena, everyone is now aware that you are doing an international film. Could you educate us more on the film?
The film is called Karna and is produced by a Los Angeles-based production company in association with Pritish Nandy Communications. I play a village girl with dual personality who is blessed with super powers. I am learning tai chi to become fit and to be able to perform all the stunts effortlessly. The film will go on floors in August and will be shot in six different countries including China where all the action scenes will be shot. India is unfortunately not in the list. Till date I have refrained from talking about this film and would have to continue to do so for some more time. But yes, I am the only Indian associated with the film in any way. Please don't ask me more about it.
You said you are the only Indian associated with the film which means that a non-Indian would be seen performing the Indian mythological character Karna. Please comment.
(Laughs) You have hit the right question and are trying all possible ways to dig my mouth to get some details. But if I answer this question I would end up giving all the details about the film which I certainly don't want to do now. Please give us some time to disclose the details. All I can say is that we have just shot for three promos as of now.
Anamika is all set to release in May? Tell us something about the film and your character in it.
I play an architect who is Dino Morea's childhood friend and the title role is played by Aarti Chhabria. Now this is a murder mystery so if I say something more it would be like telling you the entire story. Please let people go to the multiplexes and watch the film to know more about it. And honestly, it's very boring to talk about films and roles every time. I would rather talk about something very interesting.
A lot is being said about your friendship with Tanushree Dutta and that your brother Neil is dating her. Could you clear the picture?
I have still not understood what problems people have with my friendship with my fellow actress Tanushree. I don't know how people look at it but we are just very good friends. Today where actresses are seen giving the cold shoulder to their friends and colleagues and having a cold war with each other, isn't it nice that I have a good friend of mine in the industry. And there is nothing at all between Tanu and Neil. I am actually fed up of clarifying this again and again. Mine and Tanu's family have been out for dinner a couple of times and people thought ‘koi khichdi pak rahi hai' between them. But believe me they are just good friends.
What about you? Is marriage on cards for you? What do you believe in love or arranged marriage?
Not at this moment. See, for actresses it's very difficult to get married because if I get married to an industry outsider, he needs to be very, very open-minded to accept my performance on screen. And if get married to an actor then we both would be busy in our lives. I believe in love marriage and would definitely go for one and not arranged. But right now I am single. There is no such love life of mine as of now. But yes, once I get married, I will quit acting because then it would be very difficult to manage both my professional as well as my personal life.
