‘So Be It’ book review
Dubai-based Purvi Beri has written a candid, straight-from-the-heart memoir
The author of ‘So Be It’, Latika Tripathi - now known as Purvi Beri - takes us on the interesting journey that comes from being an independent Indian woman. Purvi’s the CEO of her UAE-based media representation company, and, in her capacity as a sales professional, she has travelled all over the world. But her start in life was in a small town.
The book begins with her childhood, and she describes the characters and attitudes she encountered very vividly. You sense her great love for her dad but her disappointment on discovering that he had a drinking problem. The process of growing up suddenly (her father died when she was 21, and she effectively became ‘the man of the house’) is very strikingly portrayed and makes a strong impact.
Purvi has a very candid style of writing, and she doesn’t shy away from analysing a difficult marriage that ended and relationships that didn’t work out the way she wanted. Being a single mother is still not exactly common in Asian society, and Purvi’s experiences are touching in their honesty.
In the latter half of the book, she goes on a spiritual journey that changes her life for the better. Her thrill at having a more positive way of life is infectious, and there are many encouraging thoughts from Purvi that are put across both simply and believably. And when she writes about loving unconditionally, you’ll find yourself agreeing with her that ‘So Be It’.
‘So Be It’ is available in Borders (UAE AND Oman), Jashanmal, Kinokunia, and Booksplus.
