Too Little, Too Late!

Although he has often been branded an over-possessive boyfriend, ever since Katrina became a part of Salman’s life, he has refused to accept her publicly as anything more than a friend. She has also always been the cool cat who has refused to even admit to a private life.

But things are now changing! Hmmm… maybe global warming is thawing their cold attitude to the media… as both Salman and Katrina are now using the media to express their all-new attitude regarding each other and even, marriage!

Are these sudden public expressions and confession of love enough to wipe out the bad blood created by past comments? Masala! also wonders if these announcements are nothing but really smart, starry ways to get some additional publicity for Salman’s latest flick Veer! (Honestly… we don’t think anything can save this film.)

Masala! says...

Cynics that we are, Masala! is going to say that this particular cat may have slipped out of the door. Nah! Nothing to do with Salman… but everything to do with Kat’s career going great guns at the moment. Like heck she’s going to marry in 2012 – whatever she says now!

What Katrina said...

Katrina has stopped looking for another home. So what is the big deal, you ask? Maybe she has no time to look for a home. But Kat has stated, “I’ll get married and go to my husband’s home... Why put in so much money into a new home when I have a perfectly comfortable one at the moment?” And her cut-off time for the nuptials? 2012! That’s close!

What Salman said...

On Koel Purie’s chat show, On The Couch, Salman answered questions from Koel and the public. When a viewer asked him ‘whom do you prefer – Katrina or Ash?’, Salman replied, “Definitely Katrina. Ash is married to Abhishek Bachchan, she’s very happy and I... definitely Katrina”. At this point Koel asked Salman if he was still with Kat and Salman replied with a very definite , though bored-to-death-with-the-nagging tone, “Ya ya... ya ya.”

Salman’s Very Public Past Zingers

On Dus Ka Dum:
In his show with Kangna and astrologer Pandit Janardhan, Salman had said, “Is baat ki kya guarantee hai ki meri shaadi abhi tak hui nahin hai?” Later on the Pandit (a Masala! regular; see Masala! 317) said on the show that Salman would not marry anyone from Bollywood itself! Famous for his accurate predictions, he had, on the very same show, also predicted that Kangna will be unhappy in love – this at a time when she was happily dating Adhyayan! And we all know what happened
to them!

Salman has often shot off his mouth to print journos. Here are some of his relationship-related gems that have been recorded for posterity...

H Jab jab jo jo hona hai, tab tab so so hoke rahega! If marriage has to happen, good, if not – then theek hai na. Taking vows in front of the fire, or the kaazi, or in church, or signing a piece of paper are mere formalities to give a social status to marriage. After that, there will be different pressures. Bachche paida karo, yeh karo, woh karo. And to top it, nowadays there are messy divorces. I don’t know if I am ready for such stuff.”

H On being asked if he ever came close to getting married, he said, “Yes there was this one time. It was at 3:30 in the morning and it lasted till 4am. Then at 4:30 am I was fast asleep.”

H On being asked if he was fine with an actress wife continuing with her career, he said, “If you are going to be greedy and say that I want (to do) this film and that film, then that doesn’t work. You should be at a position that when you have kids and see you on the TV they should be proud of you.”

H “I’m not being a chauvinist but it’s difficult for women to wake up early in the morning and get their make-up done. Then come back in the evening and spend time with the husband and children and cook food. It gets very tiresome.”

Obviously Salman’s expectations of a spouse are that of a traditional Indian man. Makes one ask the question – Will Miss Kaif be willing to mould herself into a traditional Indian woman’s role? Will Salman, who doesn’t even watch her films cause he doesn’t like to watch her wearing revealing clothes, allow her to act after she becomes Mrs Khan?
